Catch-Up…

I’ve added some photos from a day we spent at Sparrow’s Nest Organics, near Opal, Ab… amazing produce, best carrots ever, absolutely beautiful parcel of land.  A great reminder of our abundant summers, soon to be back after just a few more tries at spring…

Cipollini Onions curing for awaiting CSA shareholders… Especially tasty cooked nice and slow.. roasted, baked, fried ’til carmelized…

Local wild harvested fungi- Graham Sparrow knows fungi, foraging the local ecosystem exposes a wide variety of edible (and absolutely not edible!) shrooms growing amongst the mossy undergrowth.

Cabbage Collage… Lately its been slaws and stir fry’s starring the vibrant, happy food that remains shapely and nutritious throughout the winter months with a great dose of folic acid and Vitamin C. I remember a few amazing recipes I will have to photog. aside recipe next opportunity, and there was a cabbage smoothie sometime last fall…

Always a great experience when I get my hands into the soil, pulling weeds, harvesting vegetables, or just enjoying the fresh air and great scenery. For anyone interested in working on organic farms: http://www.wwoof.ca/ (worldwide opportunities on organic farms), or you could probably just approach a local organic farm and offer your labor, might not make you rich, but you might learn some valuable, lifelong skills. For anyone looking to expand their knowledge of agriculture, it is truly amazing just what we can grow in this frigid climate.
